Today is the birthday of William Watson who was born in London in 1715. Watson was a member and later vice president of the Royal Society and was known for his work in botany and with expanding our understanding of electricity. He and Benjamin Franklin both independently came up with the idea that the different types of electricity were just positive and negative charges. Watson also demonstrated that electricity could travel through wires over 2 miles long.
