Canon's new 250-megapixel sensor Free

8 September 2015

BBC: A new camera sensor developed by Canon is smaller than most average 35-mm camera sensors with standard 1.5-µm-diameter pixels, but it reaches a resolution of 250 megapixels. Data from the sensor are read at 1.25 billion pixels per second, which results in just 5-fps video. However, the resolution is 125 times better than standard high definition and 30 times better than 4K. The ultrahigh-resolution sensor can be used to read lettering on an aircraft 18 km away. Canon says the sensor will most likely be available only for surveillance systems and other specialized applications and not for the consumer market.
