Toshiba and GDF Suez continue plan for UK nuclear plant Free

2 July 2014
New York Times: Japanese industrial conglomerate Toshiba and French utility company GDF Suez announced on Monday that they intend to move forward with a plan to build a new nuclear plant in northwestern England. The facility, named Moorside, will house three Westinghouse AP1000 reactors and provide 7% of the UK's electricity. Currently, 18% of the country's electricity comes from nuclear power. However, only one plant, constructed in 1995, is considered modern. If the project is approved with no delays, construction will begin in 2020, with a target completion date of 2024. The total cost has been estimated to be about £10 billion ($17 billion).
