Solar-powered water heater designed for home rooftops Free

2 May 2014
New Scientist: A startup company called Avalanche Energy is developing a solar hot-water system for home use. Called ThermalSquare, the device is about the size of a satellite dish. Its two reflector dishes sit on the rooftop and focus the Sun’s energy onto a water intake pipe leading to the home’s existing hot-water tank. The innovative design won first place last year at the Boston Lean Startup Challenge. ThermalSquare also can form part of a larger, modular home energy system to provide cooling and generate electricity. The company plans to have its first units ready for sale by early next year at a cost of about $1000.
