New York Times: On Sunday, North Korea’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement that included a threat to carry out a “new form” of nuclear test. Experts on North Korea’s nuclear capabilities suggest that the country could attempt to test a device that would be small enough to be made the warhead of a ballistic missile. In the past several months, North Korea has test-fired multiple midrange missiles. The statement also announced that the country would be performing live-fire artillery exercises near its border with South Korea. As a result of those exercises, the two countries exchanged fire earlier today, with each side shooting several hundred rounds of shells into the other’s territorial waters.
