BBC:
In 2007 the government of Norway presented a plan to institute
a full-scale carbon dioxide capturing program at the
Mongstad
oil refinery. The outgoing Labor government, after its defeat
in the recent general election, has announced the cancellation
of the plan. The cost and difficulty of developing the
full-scale technology proved prohibitive to continuing the
project. Although the basic technology for trapping and storing
carbon dioxide underground has existed since the 1930s,
adapting it for use on practical levels has proven
difficult.
