Science:
In a surprising shakeup last month, the US National Science
Teachers Association removed its executive director, Francis
Eberle, after four years in the position. While in office,
Eberle had worked to develop the Next Generation Science
Standards, a set of voluntary guidelines for public schools
concerning what topics should be taught at each grade level,
how they should be taught, and how to test students on what
they have learned. While the search for a new executive
director gets under way, former executive director Gerald
Wheeler, who retired from the post in 2008 after 13 years of
service, has agreed to serve in the interim.
