Rebuilding the 2000-year-old Antikythera as a watch Free

18 November 2011
NVP3D: The oldest known mechanism to use clockwork gears, called the Antikythera after the place it was discovered, was found in an ancient Greek shipwreck more than a hundred years ago. The device, of which only 82 badly corroded fragments remain, not only predicted solar eclipses but also organized the calendar in the four-year cycles of the Olympiad, forerunner of the modern Olympic Games. The watchmaker Hublot has now miniaturized the Antikythera from the size of a shoebox to something that you can wear on your wrist. This version also tells the time.A three-dimensional movie of the mechanism is available at http://nvp3d.com/site/reports/28/antikythera-mechanism.
