Science:
On 9 January 2012 Thomas Bogdan becomes president of the
University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), which
manages NSF’s National Center for Atmospheric Research
(NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. Bogdan previously worked as a
senior scientist at NCAR, whose nearly 600 scientists and
engineers study severe weather, climate change, geomagnetic
storms, and other environmental factors. Currently he is
director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center. Bogdan
will succeed current UCAR president Richard Anthes, who is
retiring after 23 years.
