New
York Times: Iran may allow its nuclear activities to be
supervised by international inspectors for the next five
years—on the condition that the economic sanctions
against the country be lifted. Fereydoon Abbasi, the head of
Iran’s atomic energy agency, made the offer Monday, but
his proposal was “vaguely worded” and “far
from clear,” writes David Sanger for the
New York Times. Nevertheless, it is the first time
since October 2009 that Iran has indicated a willingness to
negotiate, and the Obama administration sees it as a sign that
the sanctions have been effective.
