Scientist: Yesterday, in a draft 2012 budget for NASA and
other government agencies, a congressional committee proposed
canceling the
James Webb Space Telescope. The Commerce, Justice,
Science, and Related Agencies Subcommittee, which creates a
draft budget for NASA each year, announced in a
press
release that it proposed to terminate funding because the
telescope "is billions of dollars over budget and plagued by
poor management." To go into effect, the draft budget will need
to be approved by the entire Appropriations Committee, the
House of Representatives, the Senate, and President
Obama.
