Science: In his blog, Andrew Maynard, director of the
Risk Science
Center at the University of Michigan School of Public
Health, gives a favorable review of the collection of essays
Science and the Media
, published in August by the American Academy of Arts and
Sciences. The book’s preface summarizes its content:
“The authors look at the role the media play in boosting
Americans’ scientific literacy and at how the new digital
media are changing the coverage (and consumption) of science
news. They discuss how inadequate press coverage combined with
poor communication by scientists can lead to disastrous public
policy decisions.” The publication is short, at 109
pages, and can be
downloaded
for free.
