Telegraph:
The outer atmosphere of the Sun contains magnetic loops that
oscillate like strings on a violin, producing "eerie musical
harmonies." Researchers at the University of Sheffield used
satellite images of the coronal loops to re-create the sound by
turning the visible vibrations into noise and speeding up the
frequency. It is believed that by studying the music of the
Sun, scientists may be able to predict, and thus prepare for,
solar flares, which can overheat power grids on Earth and
damage satellites.
