Scientist: Do suckling babies extract milk by squeezing the
nipple like a milkmaid or by sucking from the nipple like a
milking machine? Donna Geddes from the University of Western
Australia found in favor of sucking after they combined
ultrasound movies of suckling infants with measurements of the
pressure the babies created as they fed. The results could help
solve the problem of why some babies don't take up breast
feeding.
