Science:
Global warming is raising the possibility of a devastating oil
spill in the Arctic, as melting sea ice attracts more shipping
and energy exploration. But the US is ill-prepared to prevent
and recover from spills in this ecologically fragile region,
say scientists and policymakers. So they are asking the US
government to reinvigorate the national oil-spill research
program with a focus on the Arctic.
