Mapping Dark Matter with Gravitational Lenses
Physics Today 45 (6), 24–32 (1992);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.881309
Most of the matter in the cosmos can't be seen directly at any wavelength. But we can map and weigh great clumps of this dark matter as they bend the light shining through them from distant background galaxies.
The Origins and Future of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Physics Today 45 (6), 34–42 (1992);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.881310
What began as a curiosity of physics has become the preeminent method of diagnostic medical imaging and may displace x‐ray‐based techniques in the 21st century.
Physics with Radioactive Nuclear Beams
Physics Today 45 (6), 44–52 (1992);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.881311
Recently developed facilities allow a wide range of new investigations of the reactions and properties of short‐lived nuclei. These studies may help to solve puzzles of nuclear structure and the Dig Dang.
