Turbulence: Challenges for Theory and Experiment
Physics Today 43 (1), 24–32 (1990);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.881235
High‐Reynolds‐number flows are ubiquitous. Although many aspects of such flows have been understood phenomenologically, a systematic theory of their detailed properties requires novel experiments.
The Khrushchev Détente and Emerging Internationalism in Particle Physics
Physics Today 43 (1), 34–42 (1990);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.881236
Nikito Khrushchev initiated a period of growing Soviet‐American cooperation in particle physics, rudely interrupted by the 1960 spy‐plane incident.
Heisenberg, Goudsmit and the German Atomic Bomb
Physics Today 43 (1), 52–60 (1990);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.881237
Contrary to accounts based on Heisenberg's claims, the German fission research effort in World War II was indeed a nuclear weapons program, and contrary to Goudsmit's interpretations, the German team knew what it was doing.
