Radioisotope dating with accelerators
Physics Today 32 (2), 23–30 (1979);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.2995406
Counting accelerated ions rather than decay events increases the sensitivity by several orders of magnitude so we can find the ages of much older and smaller samples.
Physics with polarized nuclei
Physics Today 32 (2), 32–39 (1979);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.2995407
Recent advances in technique have greatly increased the scope of possible studies, including tests of fundamental symmetries and the spin dependence of nuclear forces.
James E. Keeler pioneer astrophysicist
Physics Today 32 (2), 40–47 (1979);
https://doi.org/10.1063/1.2995408
At the Allegheny and Lick observatories, both of which he served as director, Keeler applied physical methods to the analysis of planets, stars and nebulae.
