Physics is slowly changing; its definition, education, information transfer, and research and development are all being modified. At the start of a new decade, we look to a “systems” approach to see how we can influence these changes.

This master's‐degree program combines general instruction with specialized research experience. It is a tough course, and the graduates are in great demand.

One may “read”, “write” and “erase” photochromic materials using light of different frequencies. Lattice defects and impurities are responsible for this potentially useful phenomenon.

Highlights include 68 invited papers and special programs on physics employment and on community relations. At general‐interest sessions, papers on Apollo 11 results, molecules in space and nuclear medicine will be given.
