Is there any point in trying to make a case for physics research in a small college? Isn't all of the really important research which needs to be done now being carried on in the universities and in the large government and industrial laboratories, where the extensive and costly facilities and necessary manpower are available? What role does the small college play in fulfilling the urgent need for increasing the national scientific potential? These are the basic questions which the recently held Conference on Physics Research in Colleges tried to answer.
