Herwig Schopper is receiving the Tate Medal for International Leadership in Physics from the American Institute of Physics at a ceremony during the American Physical Society’s April meeting. The meeting is being held this year from 1 to 4 May in Denver, Colorado.
This medal is presented by AIP in honor of leadership and service in the profession of physics by a non-US citizen. According to the citation, the institute is bestowing the medal on Schopper “in recognition of his outstanding leadership and tireless efforts in building wide international collaborations in physics.” Schopper, a former director-general of CERN, continues his work at that facility and is also active in promoting physics in small and developing countries.
