I want to present a very personal perspective on physics and its current circumstances. I'd like to emphasize the word “personal.” I do not assume my perspective has general validity or global significance. I do hope it will be of some interest to some of you and that it will perhaps provoke some useful thoughts about the compelling calling we share.
