Recent high‐sensitivity measurements of the cosmic background radiation at submillimeter wavelengths indicate significant deviations from a blackbody spectrum. This far‐infrared excess radiation may have arisen from physical processes during the “dark ages” in the universe, between the formation of neutral atoms and the formation of galaxies.
