I serve as a member of a small minority in the Congress: those Members of Congress who read this magazine; those who have—or had—science‐related occupations or educational backgrounds in their non‐political “other” lives. Of the 535 Members of the 95th Congress, only six have indicated in their biographies that their previous occupation was in science, while ten more have backgrounds or education in engineering or medicine.
