A new record‐high superconducting transition temperature, Tc = 22.3 K for Nb3Ge, was announced recently. This temperature is, most significantly, more than two degrees above the boiling point of hydrogen; a significant step may therefore have been taken to move superconductivity applications from a technology based on liquid helium to one based on liquid hydrogen. The previous high transition temperature reported was 20.98 K for a Nb–Al–Ge pseudobinary alloy.
