OUR DEPARTMENT RECENTLY restudied its whole undergraduate program and is now making the transition to a revised curriculum. It is, of course, too early to judge the wisdom of our changes, but the nature of the changes and the considerations that motivated them may be of help to others. Two faculty committees were involved in the studies and recommended changes. The first committee focused on the introductory courses. A subsequent committee considered the rest of the undergraduate program. The primary concern of the later committee was for the physics major, but they also kept in mind possible effects of the revision on the nonmajors. In particular the committee tried to ease the transition between introductory and intermediate courses and to improve coördination among all courses.
