Since its inception in October 1961 as a joint project of the American Association of Physics Teachers and the American Institute of Physics, the Regional Counselor Program has directed its attention to the complex problems involved in the effective presentation of physics in the high schools. Under this program, physicists from local universities or industrial laboratories, one for each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, are appointed to serve as regional counselors. Each of the fifty‐two counselors serves voluntarily, devoting as much time as he can to establishing contacts and responding to invitations from high schools in his region.
