The year 1963 saw many exciting advances in physics, including such exotic items as gravitational collapse, anti‐Xi particles, bootstrap dynamics, to say nothing of the extraordinary fertility of new ideas in the fields of lasers and plasmas. More appropriate, however, for discussion in an AIP report are recent striking developments in what one might more properly call the sociology of physics.
