The Conference on Symmetry Principles at High Energy, held at Coral Gables, Florida, on January 30 and 31, and sponsored by the University of Miami, provided a series of welcome contrasts to those who had attended the American Physical Society Meeting in New York the previous week: the pace, the climate, the beauty of the surroundings, the intimacy and, perhaps, more than these, the style and audacity of the scientific contributions—one has only to reflect a moment on the fevered character of the New York Meeting, then perform a mental inversion, to catch the spirit of the Coral Gables Conference.
