Princeton University has announced the formation of a new Department of Astrophysical Sciences, representing an enlargement in scope of the University's Department of Astronomy. The new department, headed by Lyman Spitzer, Jr., will consist of three sections: (1) astronomy and astrophysics, (2) plasma physics, and (3) atomic and molecular physics.
