During the summer of 1962, the National Science Foundation's continuing program of support for summer institutes for teachers of science, mathematics, and engineering will enable 274 colleges and universities to hold 475 different sessions at a total cost of about $26.4 million. Approximately 20 500 high‐school teachers and 2000 college teachers will take part. Tuition and fees are paid under the NSF grants, and participants receive stipends (up to $75 a week) and allowances for travel and dependents.
