Based on the recognition that professional societies in physics must rely upon the active help and advice of physicists who are familiar with local educational problems if significant progress is to be made in improving physics teaching and if the full benefits of national efforts are to be realized, a “Regional Counselor Program in Physics” has been established as a joint project of the American Association of Physics Teachers and the American Institute of Physics. Some fifty counselors, chosen for their competence in physics, their interest in the improvement of physics teaching, and their ability to work effectively at the local level, have been appointed in the various states since the program was started last fall, and next year it is expected that there will be two or three counselors at work in each of the larger and more populous states so that the group will eventually number approximately one hundred. Requests for additional information about the program should be sent to the Regional Counselor Office, American Institute of Physics, 335 East 45th Street, New York 17, N.Y.
