Increased interest in the Midwest Solid‐State Conference was apparent at the ninth annual meeting held October 20–21 at the Argonne National Laboratory. One hundred and seventy scientists representing 29 institutions took part in the program, which consisted of a laboratory open house, followed by a banquet on Friday and the presentation of 23 contributed papers on Saturday. There were two invited papers: an after‐banquet address by Charles Slichter of the University of Illinois and an after‐luncheon talk by John Hulm of the Westinghouse Research Laboratory.
