A launching base for scientific balloon flights has been established at Palestine, Tex., by the National Center for Atmospheric Research as part of the NCAR balloon program. Funds for the installation were supplied by the National Science Foundation, which is the sponsor of NCAR. The site is said to offer a better combination of climatological conditions and trajectories for recovery of valuable scientific payloads, on a year‐round basis, than any existing balloon‐launching station.
