THE Navy Distinguished Public Service Award, the highest award which the US Navy bestows upon civilians, was presented on June 6 to Wilbur H. Goss of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. Rear Admiral Paul D. Stroop, Chief of the Bureau of Naval Weapons, cited Dr. Goss for his outstanding contributions to the Navy in guided‐missile research and development, and as a brilliant scientist who “not only provided inspired leadership to his division of the Laboratory but personally solved many complicated scientific problems associated with Talos” (the Navy's long‐range supersonic antiaircraft missile).
