During the 1960 Thanksgiving meeting of the American Physical Society in Chicago, the Society's $2500 Prize, sponsored by the Hughes Aircraft Company and awarded for work published before a physicist reaches the age of 33, was presented to George Feher. A research physicist at the Bell Telephone Laboratories since 1954, Dr. Feher, who is currently serving as professor of physics in the School of Science and Engineering of the University of California at La Jolla, is continuing to collaborate with members of the Bell Laboratories' staff during his stay at La Jolla. Born in Czechoslovakia, he received his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from the University of California. During 1959–60 he was a visiting associate professor at Columbia University.
