American Association of Physics Teachers

BEGINNING with the 1961 calendar year, the American Journal of Physics will be published monthly twelve times each year under the terms of a recent decision of the Council of the American Association of Physics Teachers. It is now issued nine times during the year, with a period of three months (June, July, and August) in which the magazine does not appear. The move was recommended by the Association's Executive Committee in response to a proposal made by the editor, Walter C. Michels of Bryn Mawr College, that the Journal be published during the summer as well as in the other months of the year. The publication was originally established by the AAPT in 1933 when it appeared quarterly as The American Physics Teacher. It became a bimonthly in 1937 and its name was changed to the American Journal of Physics in 1940. Its frequency of publication was increased to nine months per year in 1948.
