Six years ago, the National Science Foundation enlisted the aid of the American Institute of Physics in compiling data on physicists as part of the continuing National Register of Scientific and Technical Personnel. Since that time, thousands of individual physicists have cooperated with the Institute by providing the information about themselves which has been requested. A voluminous Physics Register now exists which contains reliable data with regard to the educational training, ages, geographical distribution, and employment of physicists throughout the US.
