In this talk I propose to give a general survey of experiments with oriented nuclear systems produced by cryogenic methods. In order to give a reasonably comprehensive picture I shall not restrict myself to work with which I personally was associated but shall also refer to work by others both in the Clarendon Laboratory and elsewhere.
