The response from about ten percent of our 16 000 members of the American Institute of Physics must be encouraging to every physicist who takes pride in his profession. Members who have received and read the communications from the Institute regarding the badly needed Development Fund will recall that the Committee is asking only $150000 from the total individual membership and the other $350000 from industries and other sources. The encouragement comes out of the following breakdown of gifts received from individuals up to March 8, 1957.
