Space station astronauts prepare for spacewalk to make repairs

18 December 2013
BBC: Over the next several days, two astronauts on board the International Space Station will take three spacewalks, each six and a half hours long, to repair a faulty pump module that stopped working 11 December. The damaged pump shut down half the station’s cooling system, which maintains the temperature for both the internal and external equipment. On 21, 23, and 25 December, NASA astronauts Rick Mastracchio and Mike Hopkins will work to replace the module with a spare stored on board. Although the situation is potentially serious, NASA has said it is not life threatening.
