We are developing sensing techniques using phosphors and luminescing crystals. While their use in temperature sensing is becoming well known, there exists the potential to exploit them for other diagnostics. Examples are stress/strain, heat flux, skin friction, pressure, laser-beam profiling, aerodynamic flow, and radiation. We describe our recent results in these areas.
