The fatigue properties of laser peened(LP) 7050 aluminum alloy specimens with fastener holes were investigated in this paper. At first, the surface profile and residual stress induced in the shock affected zone was characterized. Then, the fatigue specimens with notch were treated by LP, and the fatigue life of LP-treated specimens were measured and compared with base material without LP. The results indicated that LP improved the fatigue life of all specimens tested. In average, the fatigue life of specimens treated by LP before hole-drilling was 173% longer than that of untreated samples and had better effects than than those specimens treated by LP after hole-drilling.
