A review of the technique and potential applications of the fusion laser cutting assisted by an off-axis supersonic nozzle to extract the molten material is presented. Applications on cutting of materials difficult to cut via conventional laser cutting (e.g. ceramics) or materials used in applications where the finishing is a key factor, finishing impossible to obtain via conventional laser cutting (e.g. aluminum alloys for aerospace applications) are reviewed.
