Laser safety lapses can result in visually disabling retinal injuries. Retinal injuries from industrial or military lasers are uncommon. They produce retinal abnormalities that occur in other retinal disorders. Immediate vision loss from a laser injury depends on the location and extent of retinal trauma and vitreoretinal hemorrhage. Long-term visual prognosis depends on the location and extent of retinal scarring. The practical consequences of laser injuries are discussed including mechanisms, therapy and rehabilitation.
