Current therapy for the treatment of urinary outflow obstruction secondary to BPH includes transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), open prostatectomy, medical regimes (drug therapy), balloon dilatation, microwave hyperthermia and laser intervention. Utilizing a right angle side firing quartz fiber with a Neodymium:YAG laser urologists are able to perform visual laser ablation of the prostate (VLAP). This presentation will discuss patient outcomes as they relate to this technology.
