The IEC-825 standards is the basis for laser safety requirements that are in effect in most countries outside of North America. Amendments have been proposed to that document, which was originally published in 1984 and first amended in 1990. This presentation will discuss the proposed modifications, which are in the final approval process under IEC rules. Included are changes that will impact the classification of products with scanning and diverging beams, infrared outputs, and non-point sources; the expanded scope of the standard to incorporate LED’s requirements for general product safety, and features for high power lasers; and the impact on product features, manuals and labels.
