ANSI Z136.7 American National Standard for Testing and Labelling of Laser Protective equipment was developed to provide recommendations for the testing requirements of protective equipment (eyewear, windows and barriers) used in the laser industry. This paper will concentrate on the testing requirements for absorbing materials used in the manufacturing of laser eyewear. A comparison will be made on how these requirements differ or are aligned with various other laser safety standards including ANSI Z136.1 for Safe Use of Lasers and EN 207 Personal eye-protection-Filters and eye-protectors against laser radiation. New information and test requirements that are now required to be available will also be highlighted to help the user make a more informed decision when purchasing laser protective eyewear.
