The IEC TC-76 committee on laser safety has an ongoing program to update and revise the standards in IEC 60825 series to accommodate new information and to cover new devices and applications. This paper will briefly describe recent changes to those documents, as well as some revisions that are being considered for the future.
Recent changes to be covered include: corrections to the general laser requirements (60825-1:2007); specification of measurement criteria for Hazard Levels for optical fiber systems (60825-2); a revised report on laser light shows (60825-3); revised measurement criteria (60825-13); and others.
Topics being discussed for future revisions include: an update of MPEs (60825-1 and -14); measurement criteria for extended sources and scanning systems (60825-1 and -13); revision of measurements for optical fiber systems (60825-2); removal of LEDs from the free space optical communication systems standard (60825-12); LED product requirements in a new 62471-2; an update of the User Standard (60825-14); and others.
