The new legislation in Israel regarding laser safety adopts IEC60825-1 standard and sets further requirements for control and inspection. The Ministry of Defense and the Israeli Defense Forces are exempt from this new law.

We have established a military laser safety committee to set a standard that will better suit the military. We have divided orders into three categories: military laboratories are still bound by the state law. Maintenance personnel in the field are exempt from some of the requirements in the IEC standard and have some added requirements. All others are bound by the new Israeli military standard which is based on the British JSP390 with some alterations and additions. The new standard details the way of calculating the laser safety range and special laser courses in different levels.
